Why is it important to do hearing tests on school-age children

• To ensure that no ear infections are present
• To have a clear understanding of the childs hearing status
• To eradicate possible learning difficulties due to hearing impairment
• To ensure that education is provided to the child in the correct manner
• To ensure that the correct treatment regime is followed
• To pinpoint the root of the childs difficulties

The difference between a Hearing Screening and a Full Hearing Test is as follows:

Otoscopic evaluation
Tympanogram
Reflexes
Air conduction testing	Tested on a Pass/Fail basis at limited frequencies	Able to determine hearing thresholds at each frequency
Bone conduction testing		Able to determine type, degree and hearing configuration
Speech Testing		Able to determine the speech reception as well as discrimination thresholds
